Walking
I work at a daycare. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs that I can imagine having in this season of my life. It’s incredible seeing all the kids grow, change and develop — to see their personalities develop. Today was a special day, though. Today, I got to see one of my kids walk for the first time. It was one of the most exciting things that I get to see where I work. He walked around very stiffly, with his arms out in front of him, much like Frankenstein’s Monster.
I was thinking about, as I was watching him stalk around the room, giggling with excitement about first steps, that this whole walking thing was so exciting to him. We all take them, not literal ones, but spiritual ones. After we come to the saving revelation of Jesus Christ, we begin to walk around. We can choose to crawl around on the ground, in the dirt — in the worldly things we’ve always been crawling around in. Or, we can choose to learn to walk upright. It’s a struggle at first, but these kids are so motivated to be able to walk around, and many of us just have to be motivated to do the same in our relationship with Christ.
