This week I was blessed to travel with the Local Go Team to the Casey County and Russell County hospitals. We delivered some small gifts and visited with patients. We enjoyed both trips, but they were both different. In one of those, we found favor with the staff and truly had the help of the Holy Spirit from the first room we visited. What I have found with Missions is that if you go into them listening for what God wants to teach you then you will always walk away with more than you gave away. It seems even small events like a couple hours at a hospital can change your spirit in some way, if you let it. While there, I couldn’t help but notice how much pain people are in right now. I met people who were in emotional pain for many other reasons than the one they were in the hospital for. Most of our prayer requests came for peace first, health second. In this busy life, it really is true that we are all “one phone call from our knees” as Matt Kearney puts it in the song below. In these times, people need God most but they also need other people to be be God’s hands and feet. If you know someone in a desperate or painful situation right now, reach out to them with the Spirit of the Lord. Reach out to them without a thought of your own needs. Just reach out to them in love. If you find yourself being the one in need right now, know that your Christian brothers and sisters are praying for you and we love you. On our knees, whether we are there on behalf of ourselves or someone else, we are closer to love than any other place.
